Tanker 25 is one of two Freightliners with a fire body built by Toyne Fire Apparatus in Breda, Iowa that were purchased by the Shawnee Heights Fire District in 2006. As a tanker, its primary role is to carry water to areas of our district that do not have fire hydrants readily available to extinguish fires. Tanker 25 is equipped with a 500 gallon per minute Waterous fire pump and carries 2,000 gallons of water. The truck is equipped with three large valves (one on each side and one on the rear) that allow the 2000 gallons of tank water to be quickly emptied into a portable water supply tank at a fire scene so that the truck can drive to a water source, refill the tank and return with water to the fire scene. The tanker also carries four additional Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for firefighters to use and tools that can be used by a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) if they need to rescue a trapped firefighter inside a structure fire.
